David Gerber

Dr. David Gerber is an Associate Director in Arup's Foresight, Research and Innovation team. As Global Research Leader he is responsible for managing the global research programs and network; and the delivery of research services, tools, thought leadership, and strategy. David’s clients and collaborators include Arup leadership teams as well as external organizations from a broad range of sectors.


Dr. Gerber leads a multi-disciplinary team of expert researchers that specialise in research strategy, thought leadership, research program development and management, and in helping others. Dr Gerber supervises PhD research projects funded by government and industry and has authored over 80 publications on topics of architecture, engineering and computation.

 

Dr. Gerber has served as a chair, editor and peer reviewer of numerous design, engineering, and computing journals and conference proceedings. He has been awarded numerous visiting faculty and research fellowships including at Harvard University and MIT’s Media Lab. Dr. Gerber serves as a board member of the Simulation in Architecture and Urban Design community and is chair for the forthcoming CAAD Futures conference.

 

Dr. Gerber holds a joint appointment at USC’s Viterbi School of Engineering and the USC School of Architecture as an Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering Practice and of Architecture where he directs the Civil Engineering Building Science undergraduate program and the Masters in Advanced Design and Construction Technology Program.

 

Dr Gerber is an experienced architect, researcher and public speaker. His work combines research expertise with Arup’s global design and engineering expertise, providing clients with unique insights and strategies for their businesses and clients.
